Competion Details
The competition is open to 7-12 year old children living in and attending school in Jamaica. The competition will run from May 1-31, 2026.
Entries will be accepted for the Poetry Performance, Poetry Writing, Essay and Poster competition categories using the theme. “There’s A Winna Inna Me” (the belief that there is a champion within each child, expressed as strengths, talents, unique traits or even hobbies).
The adjudication panel will include some of Jamaica’s leading creative writers and graphic designers.
Participants will be able to submit their entries within two (2) Age Group Categories:- 7-9 years old
- 10-12 years old
Competition Guidelines
- Submit a poem (written or video performance), essay or poster by May 31, 2026, under the theme “There’s a Winna Inna Me” (the belief that there is a champion within each child, expressed as strengths, talents, unique traits or even hobbies).
- Each submission must bear the child's name and age
- All entries must be submitted via sabrenamcdonald.com by 4:00pm on Sunday May 31, 2026
- Children can submit entries in more than one category
- Poetry- Written Submissions
- Must be an original work, not aided by artificial intelligence
- Works can be written in Standard English and/or Jamaican language.
- Must not exceed 2 pages (typed, font size of 12pt)- PDF, JPEG or PNG
- Poetry- Performance Submissions
- Must be an original work, not aided by artificial intelligence
- Works can be performed in Standard English and/or the Jamaican language.
- Performances can be supported by audio accompaniment (track and/or musical instrument)
- Must be submitted as a video, not exceeding 3 minutes and not exceeding 100MB. Large size video entries may also be submitted via the entrant's YouTube link to be placed in the form.
- A maximum of three performers are allowed for each poetry performance submission.
- Essay Submissions
- Must be an original work, not aided by artificial intelligence
- Works must be written in Standard English and can include use of the Jamaican language
- Must not exceed 500 words (typed, font size of 12pt)- PDF, JPEG or PNG
- Poster Submissions
- Must be an original work, not aided by artificial intelligence. Posters can be drawn/illustrated, painted, done as a collage or any style of original design.
- Must be submitted as an image (photographed/scanned), size- PDF, JPEG or PNG and should not exceed 5MB.
- Entries should avoid the use of copyright-protected images. Open source, copyright-free image sites such as the following are recommended-
